A WOMAN with strong Tenby connections has been awarded an Oscar for scientific and technical achievement along with her company Alias/Waterfront at the Scitech Awards (the Scientific and Technical Oscars), parts of which will be screened at the actual Oscar ceremony on March 23.

Jill Ramsay, whose maiden name is Eastlake, helped develop the MAYA software which is the world's leading 3D animation software and has been used to create special effects in films such as 'Lord of the Rings', 'Shrek', 'Ice Age' and 'Harry Potter'.

Jill is currently living and working in Toronto, Canada, with her husband, Robert, but her mother, Gwen, still lives in Tenby and is very proud of her daughter's achievements across the pond.

Jill was chosen to travel to the ceremony, where the award was presented to company president, Doug Walker, by Hollywood star Kate Hudson, daughter of Goldie Hawn.

Anyone who wants to try their hand at special effects can do so by visiting http://www.aliaswavefront.com/freemaya">www.aliaswavefront.com/freemaya, where a free version of the MAYA package can be downloaded.
