During the next week, two of Cambridge's finest organ scholars will give recitals in St. Mary's Church, Tenby. These two recitals are highly recommended to any with an interest in the organ, the church, or music in general.
On Wednesday, August 24, there will be an opportunity to hear Alexander Woodrow perform. He is currently an organ scholar at Magdalene College and entering his second year. He has established himself on the recital circuit and performed at many prestigious churches and cathedrals, both in the UK and abroad. He has a gift for performing with remarkable ease and assurance, and with an excellent understanding of the music that he plays.
The recital on Thursday, August 25, is given by Ben Chewter, who is currently the organ scholar at Emmanuel College, now entering his final year. Ben was formerly organ scholar of Canterbury Cathedral, and as such became well established on the organ scene. He has a strong reputation, both in the UK and in Germany, being a regular recitalist in at least the former. Ben is recognised for his understanding of the structure of the pieces that he plays and the sense of impetus and drive that it gives his performances.
Both of the recitals will begin at 8 pm and it would be wonderful to present the two visiting organists with a large and appreciative audience. The opportunity to hear some of Cambridge's most remarkable musicians should not be missed. There will be a minimal charge of £2 to enter the church for the recitals.
