A concerted effort is being undertaken in Dyfed Powys to bring fine defaulters to court, so that if payments are still not forthcoming, the justices will be able to consider the full range of their powers, including imprisonment in default. The operation follows a national initiative known as 'Operation Payback II' Magistrates' Courts' enforcement officers will be working in partnership with the police throughout November, to form a large task force within the Dyfed Powys area. Dyfed Powys area director, Luigi Strinati, said: "At any time there are more than 3,000 outstanding fine default warrants in the area. "While Dyfed Powys consistently achieves and exceeds national enforcement targets, the message being given out is that no-one will escape justice and that they must face up to their responsibilities and pay any outstanding fines." If any fine defaulter has any genuine difficulty in meeting their responsibilities, they should contact the Magistrates' Courts' Central Finance Office on 01437 771200 to avoid the possibility of being arrested as part of this operation. Courts will be scheduled specifically to deal with defaulters apprehended as part of this operation.
