Angela Burns, AM for West Carmarthen, is pictured with her shadow Shazia Awan at the graduation ceremony for Operation Black Vote. The scheme, which was launched in October 2007, saw nine black and ethnic minority (BME) people from all over Wales shadowing Assembly Members from all four main parties. The project aimed to encouraging those from BME communities to participate in the democratic process and increase the number of BME AMs. "Shazia was a great member of our team and will go on to do very well; she has already been asked to be a member of the Muslim Council of Britain," said Mrs. Burns.
