This week is Tenby's annual Open Week involving 12 competitions from last Sunday until today (Friday). This week's report gives information on the competitions from Sunday to Tuesday, and next week's report will give the balance of the competitions.

Mixed Foursomes Stableford

This mixed foursomes stableford competition on Sunday was played in very poor weather, both wet and windy - a true test of golf. Winners were Sylvia and Tony Taylor from Bloxwich with an excellent 39 points, second were Carole and Eric Martin from Lincoln and Gainsborough with 36 and a better last six, and third were Gillian Roberts and Tony Morris from Tenby, also with 36. Eight pairs had twos. They were Suzanne and Gary Brown, Avrile Rees and Chris Grant, Rita Smith and Brian Turner, Yvonne Chalker and James Dixon, Linda Thomas and Peter King, Gillian and Mike Berryman, Ann Williams and John Porter and Lynn Buttery and Phil Toon. Gents and Ladies singles Stableford

The gents and ladies stableford competitions on Monday were played on a much nicer day - though the rough was no less testing - and resulted not only in 22 twos, but also a hole-in-one. The ladies winner was Katehrine Collier, of Radyr, with a very good 39 points, second was Liz Freeman, of Sandmartins, with 38, and a better back nine, and third was Mina Laing, of Manning Heath, also with 38. The gents winner was Steve Bodmin, of Marlborough, with a very good 38 points, second was Ray Chambers, of Leominster, with 35, and third was Chris Woods, of Wolstanton, with 34 and a better back nine. Twenty-one players had twos, including Alex Neill, who also had a magnificent hole-in-one on the eighth and apparently almost had another on the 17th, but sadly only had a two. The other twos were from Bob Beech, J. Carey, Tony Carey, Ray Chambers, John Clarke, David Crawley (2), C. Forward, Peta James, Christine Johnson, Charles Letchworth, Thomas Oakley, Arthur Soar, Jessie Stringer, John Stringer, Sylvia Taylor (2),Tony Taylor, M. The gents and ladies fourball ball stroke stableford on Tuesday was played on a glorious day with a light breeze and the rough to contend with. The winners of both competitions were from Bloxwich Golf Club. The ladies winners were Caroline Corrigan and Jessie Stringer with an excellent 46 points, second were Lynn Butterly from Sherwood Forest and Valerie Williams from Mapperly with 43 and third were Rita Smith from Freshwater Bay and Doreen Turner from Laleham with 42. The gents winners were Alex Neil (of hole-in-one fame) and Tony Taylor with 44 points, second were Nigel Barden from Reading and John Scott from Aspect Park with 42 and a better back six and third were Brian Kelly and Kieren Quinn from Sandmartins, also with 42. Fourteen pairs had twos. They were S. Williams and R. Chilton, Ray Hattersley and R. H.
