Plans to transform one of Tenby's gardens into a theatre venue have been mooted to the town council. Ahead of their meeting last week, councillors met to discuss the idea with local resident Gary Tapley, who has a background in acting and theatre production, and has also been responsible for the upkeep of Brother Thomas's Garden in Crackwell Street recently. Also present were Marcus Beck and Simon Macro from Freshwest Design, who are based in Penally and interested in being involved in any such project. The duo said that they were keen to provide a seating area for the garden and improve the infrastructure of what was a 'beautiful and natural space' in Tenby. Mr. Tapley said that the area would provide an ideal location for outdoor theatre productions, similar to The Minack Theatre in Penzance, Cornwall, which has a world famous cliffside open-air theatre. "It could become one of the most iconic places in the UK with the uniqueness of the view overlooking the harbour. The space would also be available for the community when the theatre was not in play," explained Mr. Tapley, who said that the venue could be used as a place for local charity organisations to stage fundraising events and that the local Rotary Club were enthusiastic to get involved should the project progress. He explained that Pembrokeshire County Council had already been approached about the scheme and they had suggested that the town council could be interested in taking responsibility of the garden's maintenance. Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that she liked the idea of the garden being used as an event space and that it would give something extra to Tenby.
