Narberth trounced a weakened Tondu team and ran in 13 tries, with six being scored in the first half and seven in the second half. Outside-half Gareth James had plenty of kicking practice and was successful with nine of his conversion attempts.
Although it was a welcome return to winning ways for the Otters, it was difficult to gauge the level of performance of the players as most of the match was one-way traffic.
In fairness to the Waterwheelers they kept going to the end. Their first half try scored by David Jones converted by Dean Thomas was greeted with great jubilation by the Tondu faithful who showed that the players who have remained loyal to the club, have the full support of the local spectators.
Ironically in a match of so many tries the scoring started with a penalty by outside-half Gareth James after four minutes, quickly followed by the first of the three tries by Tongan international flanker Katilimoni Tuipulotu. The try was converted by Gareth James, who crossed for the next try when he intercepted the ball just outside the Tondu 22. Unfortunately, the conversion attempt sailed wide of the posts.
Two converted tries followed, the first scored by prop Barry Davies under the posts and the second by winger Nick Jones on the right.
Nick Jones then scored an unconverted try in the left corner after running from the halfway line.
Scrum-half Adrian Killa scored a converted try under the posts after a terrific run by winger Daniel Gravell.
Just before half-time Tondu scored their first points of the season when centre David Jones crossed for a try converted by outside-half Dean Thomas, and then just before the whistle, Katilimoni Tuipulotu scored his second try, with James again being on target with the conversion.
Hooker Craig Hawkins had been injured when Tondu scored their try and he was replaced by Simon Delaney. It later transpired that Hawkins had broken his arm and he was taken to Morriston Hospital for surgery.
It took 10 minutes of the first half before the try scoring spree kicked into action again and the first try was a real dazzler. Substitute scrum-half Chris Macdonald took a quick drop out from the Narberth 22 to initiate a move involving practically all of the Narberth team, before Daniel Gravell crossed for an unconverted try in the right corner.
It was followed by a second try from Gravell when he crossed under the posts and then Chris Macdonald got his name on the scoresheet, with both tries being converted by James.
Daniel Gravell completed his hat-trick with a converted try followed by a try by Adrian Killa who had moved to the fullback position.
The try-scoring ended as it had started with a try from Katilimoni Tuipulotu when he broke from the base of a scrum inside the Narberth half. After bursting through the immediate covering defence, he left the Tondu threequarters stranded as he raced over near the right corner flag.
The conversion attempt by Gareth James hit the posts.
Katilimoni Tuipulotu was nominated the Narberth man-of-the-match by the team management and there were also good performances by his back row colleagues Gareth Bennett and Gary Denver.
Narberth fielded: Wayne Jones (Chris Macdonald), Daniel Gravell (Andrew Bowen), Deiniol Evans, Elgan Vittle, Nick Jones, Gareth James, Adrian Killa, Barry Davies (Shannon Guy), Craig Hawkins (Simon Delaney), Alan Phillips, David Ebsworth (Meurig Daniel), Jamie Bohata, Katilimoni Tuipulotu, Gary Denver (Matthew Evans), Gareth Bennett.
