Texaco have agreed to support the proposal for a Tenby Town Partnership, being formed in the next few months to co-ordinate events and entertainment in the town, including the running of the De Valence Pavilion.

The partnership is being formed by Tenby Town Council, the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism, and Tenby2020. A bid for Objective One funds is being made to support the proposed partnership, enabling the employment of staff to support and develop both existing and new events.

As has been reported recently in the Observer, the town council have agreed to pass ownership of the De Valence to a not-for-profit Trust, and give a grant amounting to the current deficit on the building to help run it.

Last week, the Chamber of Trade and Tourism agreed to the draft Objective One bid, and to make an annual financial contribution to the proposed partnership.

Phil Thompson, public affairs adviser at Texaco, told the Observer: "We are delighted to support this new venture for Tenby. Texaco has been able to help a lot of events in Tenby in recent years, and the proposed partnership will mean a closer involvement of my company in the Tenby community. We anticipate being able to support events in Tenby to the tune of about £12,000 per year."

On behalf of Tenby 2020, Mike Thorne said: "This is tremendous news. Texaco have for a long time been active in supporting charitable and sporting events in Tenby, and we have been very grateful for that. Now this commitment is being formalised through the proposed partnership, and that greatly helps the Objective One bid. The support promised already by FBM Holidays, the town council, and the chamber means that we now have a strong partnership, and we hope that other major local businesses will join us."
