NEXT week sees Wales' premier boxing referee John Phillips from Narberth flying out to Norway for a multi nations boxing tournament where he will be refereeing boys from many countries.
John's first international was way back in 1979 when he officiated at the England v Wales international in Hastings, Sussex.
Since then, he has travelled the world many times covering world, European, Commonwealth games and refereeing the Olympic qualifying tournament in 2000.
John is now reaching almost a century of internationals at all levels - schoolboy, youth and senior - and on top of that nearly 80 Welsh finals and three British ABAS finals, it is quite staggering.
This year is also very hectic with club shows and Welsh titles to be won as well as internationals. John is also vice-chairman of the Referees and Judges in Wales and vice-chairman of the Western Division.
Although the years have been quite hectic, it has also been rewarding, he hopes to be refereeing for a few years yet.
