As previously reported the death occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, recently, of former lifeboat coxswain, Mr. Joshua William Richards, of 69 The Glebe, Tenby. He was 82.

Josh ran the ‘Doodle’ fishing boat for over 50 years, and he and the boat were a constant iconic image of the harbour. He also worked for Mike Webb’s Building for many years.

He served in the army and did his National Service in Hong Kong.

He will perhaps be best remembered, though, for his 34 years service with the RNLI, gaining two bronze medals for bravery, in 1966 and 1982. For many years, he was coxwain, as was his father before him; his three brothers were also on the crew, totalling over 100 years of service between them.

Josh was always helping people in the town. His warmth and generosity will be sorely missed; he was a true son of Tenby.

As well as his wife Jean, family left to mourn are Glenda and Peter (daughter and son-in-law), Mark (Josh) and Sarah (son and daughter-in-law), Paul and Debbie (daughter and son-in-law).

The funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby, on Thursday, July 2, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

Officiating were the Rector, Rev. Canon Andrew Grace and John Morgan, while bearers were members of the Tenby RNLI crew.

There were family flowers only, but donations to the Harriet Davis Trust may be made c/o W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, who carried out the funeral arrangements.
