Mrs. B. Morgan
Clunderwen
Mrs. Betty Morgan passed away very peacefully on Monday, January 25, at Withybush Hospital, following a short illness.
Born at Glasfryn, Spring Gardens, Whitland, she was the second child of four born to John Mark Bennett and Mary Hannah Bennett. She was initially educated at Whitland Primary School and continued at Whitland Grammar School, where she excelled in sport activities and was indeed included in school teams for both hockey and tennis.
On leaving school, Betty was employed on the clerical staff of Mr. V. J. Williams, St. Clears, where she remained until her marraiage to Mr. Emrys Morgan, Preswylfa, Clynderwen, settling in Heol-y-gaer, Clynderwen.
It was not long before the couple decided to start their own business as stationers in the village, commencing at first in a small wooden hut on the approach road to Clynderwen Station, selling newspapers, cigarettes, magazines etc to local commuters.
Finally, this culminated in them building their own combined shop and home in the centre of the village, where they served the community for many years until their retirement.
They moved to their new bungalow in Gower Villa Drive, Clynderwen, naming it Sundown, where Emrys passed away in 1992, aged 72 years, but Betty remained there until just one week before her death, aged 90 years.
The funeral took place on Monday, February 1, with a service at St. David’s Church, Clynderwen, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. Officiating minister was Rev. Kingsley Taylor.
There were family flowers only, with donations, if so desired, towards St. David’s Church, Clynderwen, c/o Ken Davies and Sons, Funeral Directors, Clynderwen, who also with great sympathy and compassion carried out all funeral arrangements.
