MRS. T. WARING TENBY
The funeral took place on July 15, at St. Julian's Church, Tenby harbour, of Mrs. Thelma Waring, of Nythfa, St. Mary's Street, Tenby, who passed away on July 8. She was 85. A native of Tenby, Thelma began her working life at the Tenby Laundry in Lower Park Road, under the management of the Diment family. After her marriage to Jack in 1943, she concentrated on bringing up her family, firstly in Victoria Street and then in The Glebe, returning to work in the Junior School kitchen until her retirement. Thelma was proud to be a member of a large family which was very much a part of the harbour community in Tenby. She never wished to live anywhere else, and her family will be forever grateful to her for that decision. The churches of St. Mary's and St. Julian's were a very important part of her life and she attended both regularly until her illness prevented this. Above all else, Thelma's main interest was her family. She watched over all of them and supported them in all that they did, instilling in them a solid set of values and a strong sense of family. She ensured that all her children and grandchildren shared her love of the beaches of Tenby and the harbour area in particular. Her love was unconditional and non-judgemental and she had a wicked sense of fun. Earlier this year, Thelma and Jack celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, which is a rare occurrence for any couple and a testament to the strength of their marriage. Throughout this very sad time, Thelma's family have been greatly comforted by the many kind words used to describe her. She was indeed a lovely lady and someone possessed of a gentle and caring nature - and that is how she will be remembered. She is survived by her husband Jack Waring, Malcolm and Sarah, Graham and Carole (sons and daughters-in-law), Denise and Nygel, Beverley and Colin (daughters and sons-in-law), Marilyn (daughter), 13 grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, sisters Stella and Mavis, and brother-in-law Ronnie. The funeral service was conducted by the Rector, Andrew Davies. There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for Tenby RNLI, c/o Messrs. W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd., The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby.
