The death occurred on Friday, January 4, of Mrs. Nanette Mary Walsh, at her home, Bromley Wells, Jeffreyston. She was 60.
She is survived by her mother Mary and Uncle Leo. Clr. Maureen Ward, who has been a friend of Mary and Nanette Walsh for 30 years, writes: Nanette Walsh was a larger-than-life lady with a fantastic sense of humour and she shared with her mother Mary a passion for cats.
I first met Nett and Mary after I had set up Tenby Animal Rescue Centre, and they quickly volunteered their help in fund-raising and rescuing animals. Alongside this, they set up Jeffreyston Cat Shelter, working closely with the Cats Protection League for many years, and many an unwanted or injured cat owed its life to this dedicated and compassionate pair.
Nett was born in Sioux City, Iowa, USA, where her American father was serving with the US Army. After he was killed on service when she was just two years of age, she and Mary returned to Sutton Coldfield where they lived before moving to Jeffreyston in 1977.
Nett and Mary were an inseparable and indefatigable duo, and many people will remember them in our Animal Rescue shops and fund-raising at country shows, where Nett enjoyed nothing more than chatting to customers and visitors and putting the world to rights. Intelligent and witty, she lived her life to the full, taking enormous pleasure in Christmas, celebrations, outings and the company of friends. With Nett's passing, I have lost a true friend and the feline world has said goodbye to a caring champion. But above all, her mother, Mary, has lost a wonderful daughter, her constant companion and dearest friend, and I know she is very much in everyone's thoughts. The funeral will take place on Monday, at 12 noon, at St. Jeffrey and St. Oswald Church, Jeffreyston, followed by interment in the churchyard.
Further enquiries can be directed to Messrs. W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd., The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, who are carrying out the funeral arrangements.
