Next week sees a nurse from Tenby taking part in a sponsored swim to Caldey Island.
Forty-three-year-old Deanna Morton, of 17 Culver Park, will be taking the plunge in order to raise funds for Tenby's Air Training Corps Squadron.
Deanna, who has taken part in two previous swims to the monastic isle, will be setting off from the Mayor's Slip, weather permitting, on Wednesday and hopes to complete the challenge in around two hours.
Although looking forward to the challenge, Deanna is wary of the Portugese man-of-war jellyfish that have been sighted in the sea locally and the fact that she could also suffer from hyperthermia from the cold water temperatures.
Deanna, who has been training five or six times a week, will be accompanied by a support boat provided by her partner, Mike Stace.
A nurse at Belmont Court Nursing Home, Deanna and Mike are both members of Tenby Sailing Club and will also be taking part in the Redwing Championships in Fishguard later this month.
Swim sponsorship money collected by Deanna, whose 16-year-old son Daniel is a sergeant with the ATC, will be used to buy much needed equipment for the corps, such as new climbing equipment for the squadron's recently completed climbing wall.
The money collected will also enable the members of the ATC to participate in a wider range of activities designed for the cadets to get the most out of their youth.
Any donation will be appreciated and anyone who would like to sponsor Deanna is asked to contact her son Daniel on 844484.
