Remedial work on the landslip below The Norton in Tenby is due to be completed today (Friday) just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Supervised by Pembrokeshire County Council and undertaken by Thyssen Geotechnical, the work has included the clearance of vegetation and the 'scaling' of the slope local to the slope failure; placement of a mesh over the failed area - the surface of which will be over-sprayed with a mulch to promote vegetative growth; and rock bolts over isolated areas adjacent to the slip area.

Access to the cliff face to enable the work, which has been taking place over the last 10 days, has been gained with the use of a crane-mounted cradle.

The landslip is believed to have been caused by water in a land drain at the top of the cliff, and to prevent this occurring again, a drain has been installed to carry water from the top to the bottom of the cliff face.

In addition, soil nails are also being drilled into the surface of the area concerned above the North Walk.

An appraisal of the highway support structure above the slope area indicated no current concern over the stability of the road, but monitoring will continue by the council.

Although the work is due to be finished today, engineers will review the stability of the cliff over the summer months and any further work will be carried out as required in the Autumn.
