Last year, 55,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK.

To raise awareness of these shocking statistics, 33-year-old Nick Young is running 55 miles to represent every diagnosed case and raise £10,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

It’s a huge undertaking. But he’s not running alone. He’s carrying a four-metre character called Giant Jeff - a relatively lazy monster who likes to be carried!

With already the European World Championship Cardiff Half Marathon under their belts, the duo successfully completed the Long Course Weekend’s 26.2-mile marathon on Sunday.

“The course was tough and the 40 mph winds ensured Jeff ended up in the hedge a few times!” said Nick, who lives in Caerphilly.

“We love West Wales; I did Ironman Wales a few years ago and the support was amazing and the people of West Wales didn’t disappoint on Sunday and offered their support the whole way around!”

When asked what inspired him to undertake such a challenge, Nick said: “My mum is to blame for this; she is an active fundraiser for the charity and I have met some of the cancer survivors and was inspired by them. A little bit of pain running is nothing that they have to endure with their treatments!”

Nick and Jeff, made by the massively talented Lisa Hillman Derre, an artist from Cardiff, took six hours and 16 minutes to complete the marathon and will be out again tomorrow (Saturday) for the conclusion of the challenge, running over 26 miles of loops of Cardiff Bay. He’s appealing to people to join him for just one, two or the full 26 miles. The charity will also be in attendance at Roald Dahl Plas.
