A two-year BTEC beauty therapy course started in September.
A modern fully-equipped salon was provided at the school by The ENGAGE project, Greenlinks and Greenhill School collaboratively.
The course is delivered by qualified beauty therapists from Greenlinks funded by the ENGAGE project using European Social Fund monies.
The students are really enjoying the course, they have been completing the Btec first qualification in beauty therapy. Next term, they will also be adding hairdressing into the qualification which they are excited about.
This Btec course gives a very good insight in helping students to choose if they would like a career in the hair and beauty industry.
Thanks must go to Cath Morgan, Pembrokeshire County Council's 14-19 vocational curriculum coordinator, and Adam Cummine from Greenlinks (a community interest company) who were instrumental in bringing this new and popular vocational course to Greenhill.
Springbok Rugby Star Links with Greenhill
Greenhill recently applied to Sky Sports to participate in the Sky Sports Living for Sport Scheme. The application was successful and Greenhill are now linked with ex-Springbok rugby star Thinus Delport for the rest of the school year.
All schools were asked to apply to the scheme which is aimed at linking schools with a sports star who will work with the school as a role model to boost children's confidence, change behaviours, increase attainment and boost life skills.
Thinus was due to make his first visit to Greenhill yesterday (Thursday) to meet students and staff to plan a programme for the rest of the academic year. Keep looking in future 'Greenhill News' for published dates on the programme.
Sports Superstars
Scarlett Rushby-Smith, of Year 10, enjoys playing hockey for Tenby Ladies and Greenhill School. Whilst Scarlett enjoys playing in any position, her preferred spot is left midfield. Her favourite sport is horse riding and she has her own horse 'Steel'. They compete in many pony club events. Her sporting idols are Zara Phillips and Pipa Funnell and Scarlett would like to do more eventing and hunter trials with Steel.
Her best personal sporting achievement so far is being chosen as a silver young ambassador and adistar to promote the Olympics and sport in Pembrokeshire. Also being part of the Greenhill Under 16 hockey team that became Pembrokeshire and West Wales champions. Scarlett would like the team to go on and win the national tournament.
Film Club
After a grand succession of modern movies, film club decided to give their attendants a taste of culture with the extremely popular 'Jurassic Park'.
Set in a theme park, it follows a group of scientists who go and check out what could be the greatest 'zoo' of all time with one spectacular feature - dinosaurs!
However, when things go horribly wrong, they have to learn about how to survive against the toughest carnivores known to man or become killed by long extinct creatures.
With real life dinosaurs, a vast expanse of land, animals of old, danger and suspense in good measure, this was a movie that will never become extinct in the mid of film club-goers.
And it was nice to see how humans can work hard in order to preserve something, a moral standard not followed out as much in this society.
If you want to find out more about film club, see Mr. Jones (art) or Mr. Cunliffe (geography).
