Under 19 netball tournament: Greenhill Under 19s girls team participated in the county netball tournament at Bush Comprehensive, Pembroke (writes Emma Guerreiro).
The girls played in pool two against both Taksers and Pembrokeshire College; our first match against the college team saw a fantastic opening to the tournament beating the sport academy team 9-1.
After such success, the girls went on to play Tasker Milward School, a superb match, with both teams playing to the best standard.
However, our girls stayed focused and together beat Tasker Milward 8-67. After this success the girls appeared top of their pool, therefore through to the semi-finals against runner-up of pool two - Pembroke. A feisty game between the two rivals resulted in Greenhill coming out on top with a tremendous win leading on to the final.
The last game of the day saw Greenhill against Sir Thomas Picton who were previous finalists.
Unfortunately, nerves exceeded our girls and Sir Thomas Picton took advantage of the game, gaining a big lead by the first half. In the second half, the Greenhill girls stepped up and increased there goal count however it was too late, resulting in a defeat, so finishing runners-up.
On the bright side, this is the furthest Greenhill has got in this tournament with an exceptional team led by captain Emma Guerreiro.
There was phenomenal play from all representatives of Greenhill with solid defence by Saskia Parker and Annie Thomas, the centre court consisting of Felicity Grigg, Chelsea Rees, Maisie John and Hannah Lewis, with the attack from Emma Guerreiro and Kirsty Lewis who as the youngest player of the team (being only Year 9) played exceptionally well, contributing to how well we competed.
A big thank you to our coach Mrs. Morgan who has inspired the girls to strive for the best and be determined to win.
