Thursday, July 9, witnessed the first inter-house competitions day at Greenhill.
In the last few years, the sports day was resurrected with success and after much debate the new format of a competitions day, with a combination of traditional athletics events and various team challenges was adopted.
In the weeks leading up to the big day, the houses of Glyndwr, Llewellyn, Dewi and Caradog prepared their Year 7 and 8 teams of boys and girls for the various competitions.
The team challenge events comprised of competitions ranging from the water relay, which involved teams collecting as much water as possible to fill their cylinder, whilst overcoming the obstacles of slippery gunk covered tarpaulin, a paddling pool and ferocious water guns, to more traditional welly wanging and wheel barrow relays.
The success of the day could only be measured against the students reviews which deemed it to be a 'fantastic day', 'awesome'.
The results of the Year 7 and 8 competitions were combined to deem the overall winner.
Year 7 scores were as follows: 1. Llewellyn (313); 2. Glyndwr (312); 3. Dewi (293); 4. Caradog (273).
Year 8 scores were: 1. Dewi (302); 2. Llewellyn (284); 3. Caradog (282); 4. Glyndwr (276).
The overall winners were Llewellyn with a total of 597 points, closely followed by Dewi, just two points behind with 595, with Glyndwr taking third (588) and Dewi fourth (555).
Greenhill School would like to extend thanks to Tenby Fire Brigade for their assistance on the day and also to Jewsons of Tenby, for their generous loan of the wheelbarrows.
SIXTH FORM NEWS
AND NOTICES
Greenhill School is very pleased to announce that the new head prefects have been elected for the sixth form. David Thomas is Head Boy and Leonie Evans is Head Girl and their deputies are Jack Williams and Holly Thomas, respectively.
There is a new post of assistant head prefect, too, and Jonathan Miller and Emma Griffiths have been elected to these positions. They are to be congratulated and wished success in the year ahead.
Congratulations also to those elected as senior prefects. The decision has been made to award the title of prefect to all those who continue into Year 13. This is to acknowledge the work and responsibility all sixth form students have done and shown in the past year.
Results: A and AS-Level results are on Thursday, August 20, from 9.30 am onwards. All students must attend and see Mr. Dessent before continuation into Year 13 and finalising their timetables: option changes will be acknowledged on this day.
Year 13 will begin school at the usual time of 8.40 am on Thursday, September 3. Any further subject/timetabling issues will be dealt with at that time.
Year 12 - GCSE results on Thursday, August 27. All Year 12 will be required to come and finalise their options on GCSE results day. Year 12 will then have to enrol and collect their timetables on Wednesday, September 2, between 9 and 11 am.
Students will also be required to bring any consent/medical forms for the trip to Aberystwyth (beforehand on GCSE results day would be appreciated) as, on the following morning, all Year 12 will be travelling to Aberystwyth University for an induction on the Welsh Baccalaureate on the Thursday at 9 am and staying until Friday, September 3, returning in the afternoon in time for the school buses.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to the Greenhill School Orchestra on their recent achievement at the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
The orchestra was awarded the Larry Westland CBE prize. Larry Westland was the founder of this prestigious event in 1970.
The festival has grown into a huge occasion to promote and provide young musicians with the chance to perform live in a friendly and non-competitive atmosphere.
Although the event is non-competitive, there are a series of regional festivals to perform in before you can be invited to attend the National Festival, giving the orchestra much to applaud in the achievement of winning this award (the first of only two awards presented in the school orchestra category).
Continuing with their excellent music performances, one of the school quintets (Lily Whitehurst, Chelsea Harris, Sam Turton, Hannah Gray and Rebecca Hobbs) taking part were presented with the Classic FM Award in their category. Well done!

SWIMMING
There's another sporting superstar at Greenhill! Pictured receiving a cheque from headteacher Mr. Chris Noble is Bethan Davie, of Year 8. Bethan received £50 from a school award which will go towards her general costs for competing at national events.
Bethan has represented Wales three times recently at national school level competitions. Bethan came first in 100m breast-stroke in the British Nationals in Sheffield last year and will compete again in this competition next week to defend her title.
The school is proud to have one of their students competing at such a high level in her chosen sport and wish her luck over the summer and in her next big competition in the UK School Games in September.
