RECYCLING AT GREENHILL

The geography department have launched a recycling scheme this term that will run all year. They are asking all students, staff, families and friends to donate any unwanted mobile 'phones or ink cartridges. The 'phones can be broken, have parts missing and don't have to be accompanied by a charger. They ask that you remove the SIM card and bring them to room 804 or drop them off at the school reception. The department is also recycling ink cartridges, and again, they can be taken to room 804 or to the school reception. All proceeds from the recycling schemes will be used by the school and so far have been used to purchase three DVD players for the school.

HOCKEY

Under extreme weather conditions of strong wind and heavy rain, our Year 9 hockey team played their fifth away match of the season against Pembroke on November 30 (writes captain Cathie Carter). Things weren't going too well for us in the first half as we were losing 1-0, but we soon re-gained our confidence after the captain had been subbed in the second half when we managed to score three goals, two of which were scored by Liz Longster and the other by Anna Lewis. We had to consider the fact that there were no goalkeepers as we were told the goals were said to be too dangerous after we had spotted two new goals on the sideline, but of course we didn't mind, as nobody in our team ever seems to want to play in goal. All in all, both teams played very well considering the previously mentioned weather conditions. The only near injury to report was Emma slipping on the ball. The final score was 3-1 to Greenhill. The winning team consisted of: Becca Brace, Charlotte Evans, Josie Green, Emma Guereirro, Sara Hinchliffe, Natalie Johnston, Anna Lewis, Haley Lewis, Hannah Lloyd, Liz Longster, Martha O'Neill (player-of-the-match), Shelby Rossiter and Ellen Thomas.

Netball

On Thursday, November 30, Greenhill's Under 16s netball team played their local derby with Pembroke. The game was split into three, with 10 minutes each third. The first third started quite well with some strong, accurate passes and good special awareness, but Tenby quickly lost their footing and a few major mistakes resulted in an 11 - 1 win to Pembroke. The second third began with Tenby's first centre pass and a strategic change in positions won a lot of possession. However, basic techniques were dismissed by the Tenby team as a whole and Pembroke had yet another win, 5 - 3. With Tenby restricted to a team of seven and no reserves, play got harder in the final third. A combination of fast passes and continuous running evidently showed both teams starting to struggle. However, the Greenhill girls kept their heads up and took things back to basics. Great tactical play resulted in a 37 - 12 final score. All girls played with determination and despite a loss kept heads held high and put up a good fight. Players' player was Rhian Griffiths and coaches player was Lucia Fecci. Team: GS - Sophie Rees; GA - Lucia Fecci (capt.); WA - Tara Evans; C - Rhian Griffiths; WD - Hannah Emery; GD - Chantelle Johnson; GK - Jess Ryder.
