READ AROUND THE WORLD

On Tuesday, the presentation of the Read Around the World reading challenge took place at Haverfordwest Public Library. This was an opportunity to present all the winners drawn from the recent prize draw, and also those students awarded a 'Special Effort' award, with their prizes.

Ysgol Greenhill School were reprsented by Lauren Williams, who won £25, David Janssens, who won a Heatherton activity pass and Kurt Smith (for Special Effort), who won a Heatherton fun pass. They are seen below.

GOALPOSTS MAKE HISTORY

Tenby's Greenhill School has just made a little piece of local history with the receipt of a set of football goalposts.

Tenby has long held a high reputation as a very strong rugby school, which has served the community over many years, and will of course, continue to do so.

However, football has always been extremely popular amongst the pupils and this new equipment, donated by the Sports Development Department at Pembrokeshire County Council, will enable the PE Department to offer the pupils their very own pitch at the school.

The goalposts were handed over to PE teacher, Chris Oliver, by FAW football development officer, Gerry Rigby, and members of his coaching staff, Emma Rowell and Marie Davies.

RESULTS OF

SIXTH FORM BALLOT

Both staff and students voted recently in a ballot, to elect next year's senior prefects. Following great excitement, the results can now be revealed! We are delighted to announce that next year's Head Boy and Head Girl are Lisa James and Stefan Jenkins, with Samantha Smith and James Longster in support as Deputy Head Girl and Boy.

The senior prefects have been elected as Michelle Cole, Stacey Foster, Lucy Paice, Emma John, Sophie Roberts, Ellen Rowell, James Brown, William Herdman, Jonathan Morris, Adam Thorne, Adam Walsh and Andrew Prout.

We wish all of these students well, and look forward to working with them next year!

CARS!

Will all parents of students in the Sixth Form please note that students are strictly forbidden to park their cars on the school site. We strongly advise sixth form students to use school buses whenever possible.

If students do need to drive to school, cars must be parked legally off site.

We regret that any student who chooses to park his or her car on the school site from September onwards, will find that their car will be clamped.

AUTHOR'S VISIT

We will be delighted to welcome well-known and influential Welsh language author and poet Menna Elfyn to Ysgol Greenhill School on Tuesday, June 11. Menna will be working with students in Year 10, from both Welsh and English faculties, on themes such as creative writing and translation. We are very much looking forward to our time with Menna, which will, no doubt, prove very useful, interesting and thought-provoking. We hope this visit will enhance the Anglo-Welsh culture within the school.

SNOWDON CHALLENGE

Staff from Ysgol Greenhill School will be attempting to traverse as many of the fifteen 3,000 feet peaks in North Wales to raise funds for the School on July 20. An arduous challenge, any offer of sponsorship or support will be gratefully received. Please contact Mr. Julian Dessent at the school.

HALF-TERM

Don't forget that next week is half-term. School re-opens on Monday, June 10. We wish all our staff, students and friends a very good holiday!

AND FINALLY...

It has been a sad week in Greenhill, as the school says goodbye to one its most long-standing members. Mr. Huw Thomas first came to the school as Head of PE, a post he held for 16 years, before becoming Head of Careers and Work Related Education for the past eight years. This was in addition to being a Head of Year for the past nine years, too.

All the governors, staff and students wish Mr. Thomas a very long and happy retirement, and hope that he will keep in touch with us. We will all miss him, and wish him the very best.
