In March, a competition was launched between the Library and the English Department for students to write a poster review of their favourite book. A number of very imaginative and colourful posters were entered into what proved a very stiff competition to judge.

The first prize went to Charlotte Gyseman, 7NAM, for her review of 'Desperate Deserts', a title from the popular Horrible Geography series. The second prize was awarded to Rhian Smith, 7SJE for her review of Enid Blyton's 'The Folk of the Far Away Tree'. Finally, the third prize is awarded to Michelle Beamish for her review of 'The Golden Years', a poetry book which features a poem for each day of the year.

Runners-up were: Victoria Scott, Charlotte Cowper, Rachel Hobbs and Sean Harries.

SCIENCE PROJECT

A group of GNVQ Intermediate Science students at Greenhill have been involved in a project linked with Key Stage 3 pupils in school (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 2 pupils at Narberth School, a feeder school to Greenhill.

With funding from the 'Wales Science Year', the Science Department have purchased lego equipment and a 'Robolab' CD-Rom which operates a 'SMART' house and simple lego cars. This system integrates Information Technology, Design and Technology and Science and helps pupils to understand the concepts of electricity by making it relevant to everyday life.

The Greenhill students are undertaking a unit on Electronics and, using the computer program to design, helps them develop their problem solving skills, which are essential to electronics work. They also develop communication skills by teaching younger students, which reinforces their learning.

NOAH'S ARK APPEAL

Ian Botham's walk through Wales last week raised a staggering amount of money for the Noah's Ark Appeal, but organisers say that in order to realise the last £1 million, money must keep rolling in. So, today, students and staff are being asked to donate £1 to this appeal for leaving their uniform and power suits at home, and dressing in their own clothes.

Another fund-raising venture for this appeal is that of brave Year 11 student Selina Morgan who has agreed to abseil from the Cleddau Bridge on July 20, with all money raised being donated to this appeal. If you would like to support Selina and this worthwhile cause, please contact Mrs. Henry, of the school's charity committee.

PARENTS' EVENING

Letters have already been sent home notifying all Year 7 parents that on Wednesday, May 9, the Year 7 Parents' Evening will take place. Starting at 4 pm and finishing at 6.30 pm, this will be held in the Sixth Form Centre. We look forward to seeing as many Year 7 parents as possible.

PERFORMING ARTS

Congratulations are in order to the Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Quintet who, after successfully auditioning for the National Festival of Music for Youth, will perform at the Festival in London in July.

It is especially pleasing that three entries have been successful, which is an unusual achievement for a comprehensive school. Everyone concerned should be justly proud and we wish them the very best of luck.

READ AROUND THE WORLD PRIZE DRAW

School librarian, Miss James, will be taking all of Greenhill's completed reading cards to the Pembrokeshire Prize Draw of the Read Around the World reading challenge on Tuesday. The draw will be made by Phil Thompson, of Texaco, who are our main sponsors, with organisers of the challenge on hand to offer their support.

Good luck to our readers; let's hope a number of our cards are pulled from the bag !

MAY DAY

Don't forget that school will be closed on Monday for the May Bank Holiday. We hope that all our staff, students and friends have a good day !
