YEAR 10 DRAMA TRIP
Miss Rees and Mr. Rapi took Year 10 drama students to London on Tuesday to see a dramatisation of Susan Hill's 'Woman in Black' at The Fortune Theatre, Russell Street. 'The Woman in Black' is now regarded as a classic thriller, and is the drama text studied for GCSE at Greenhill.
The visit was a great success, with many new interpretations of the play being drawn as a result of seeing it performed live.
GCSE MUSIC PERFORMANCES
Last night and tonight, Year 11 music students are taking advantage of an invaluable opportunity to practise the practical aspect of their examination in front of an audience in the school's Drama Studio. If you missed last night's performance, you can still come and watch tonight, starting at 7pm.
GNVQ TRIP
On Monday, Year 13 students of GNVQ Leisure and Recreation spent the day at Morfa Bay Leisure Park, learning about how the organisation is run, encompassing such issues as customer services, marketing and so on. It was certainly a worthwhile opportunity to find out what goes on 'behind the scenes', and provided a valuable insight into the leisure and recreation industry.
READ AROUND
THE WORLD
Don't forget to 'Read Around the World'....over half-term!
The closing date for this year's reading challenge, the imaginary reading journey around the world, draws closer so this is a reminder to all the readers who still have a few books to read before they complete their challenge to carry on reading.
Reading six books means that a 'half-way' certificate is awarded, and reading all 12 books wins the reader a 'Return Ticket Certificate' and entry into the Pembrokeshire draw, the first prize of which is a £50 travel voucher donated by Ocky White Travel, Haverfordwest.
Here are some books that are proving popular in the school library, and may fulfil some of the categories that need to be read: 'Artemis Fowl' by Eoin Colfer, which Miss James claims is even better than Harry Potter (fantasy, humour, adventure); 'Who, Me?' by Jenny Sullivan (humour, adventure, fantasy, mystery); the 'Redwall' series by Brian Jacques (animal stories, adventure, fantasy); 'Arthur the Seeing Stone' by Kevin Crossley-Holland (fantasy, historical, adventure); 'Killer Mushrooms Ate My Gran' by Susan Gates (humour) and 'The Kite Rider' by Geraldine McCaughrean (adventure, fantasy).
If you do need any help finding books for the challenge, please ask your English or Welsh teacher or Miss James.
LIBRARY QUIZ
At lunch-time today (Friday), a selection of quiz addicts, sorry, academics will gather in the erudite surroundings of the school library to pit their wits against one another in a quiz which is fast becoming more popular than Ann Robinson's put-downs.
Who will enter the strangest team name? Who will prove their pencil tins are full of pencils? Who will show their links are the strongest? And who will be victorious and secure possession of the hotly contested quiz prize, watched by a brace of bodyguards from Year 12? (A box of Roses has a strange effect on some!).
Tune into the next instalment of Newyddion/News to find out the answers to the above.
GIRLS SPORT
All training and clubs were postponed this week due to the abysmal weather conditions.
However, we wish the senior hockey and senior netball teams well, as they began their tour to Waterford, Ireland, yesterday. They will play a variety of school teams around the region, before making their return journey across the Irish Sea early on Tuesday morning.
