YEAR SEVEN

Mathematics competition winners: Over 150 young mathematicians from Greenhill's Year 7 recently entered the Casio Keyed In Competition on-line. We are delighted to announce that Richard James and Lucien Coates were successful, and here they are seen (right) being presented with their certificates and prizes by the Maths Department's Miss Rotchford.

Noticeboard: Over the course of the year, all the Year 7 form groups are given the opportunity to decorate a noticeboard with a display of their choice. So far, we have had a book board, a Hallowe'en board and now a Christmas Wish board, courtesy of Mrs. Radion's Year 7 form group. The students wrote Christmas poems, and what Christmas represents for them, as well as 'Wish Lists' of what they would like for Christmas. Not surprisingly, after September 11, a number of students asked for world peace and an end to terrorism. Let's hope that we can all work together to make these wishes possible.

In the picture (below) are some of the students from 7LJR, who put a great deal of effort into making the display: Laura-Ann Sanderson, Hannah Beacon, Leanne Ryder, Chris Baker, Daniel Pullin and Matthew Lewis.

Carol singing concert: Students of Year 7 and Head of Year, Mrs. Heather Henry hosted a very special and most successful evening of carol singing and readings in the school's Main Hall last night. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and appreciated the hard work and effort made by our youngest students.

CHARITY DAY

Greenhill's annual, much-anticipated, Charity Day will take place next Thursday, December 20, the last day of term. A host of activities have been organised to raise money for charities which have been selected by the students themselves. These are: Amnesty International, Ty Hafan Children's Hospice, Tenby's Avenue Centre and the New York Firemen's Widows Benevolent Fund.

Students will be charged 50p each to leave their uniform at home: prizes will be available for best fancy dress, both student and staff effort.

There will also be the Tinsel Fun Run around the town, for which the staff begin their training in September with as much zeal as they would the London Marathon! Please donate generously, if you do see a huge contingent of runners in Tenby next Thursday.

During the lunch-hour, the Main Hall will be packed to the rafters to see the Sixth Form Review, the showcase of a huge variety of talent, sure to contain lots of laughs and inventive sketches.

The support given to the school for Charity Day by all our parents and friends is really appreciated. This year, students will be looking for local sponsorship for our activities, with very distinctive green forms with red lettering. It is very important that any money donated by you is given to students with these forms only. Please do not accept any photocopied sponsorship forms.

All in all, it promises to be an exciting, and fun day, with surely the best bit being that all the money raised will go to some very well deserving causes. Please support us as much as you can: it means a lot, to people all round the world.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Don't forget that next Wednesday night, our annual Christmas concert will be held in the School's Main Hall starting at 7.30 pm, incorporating the Choir and School Orchestra. Tickets can be bought in advance from the Performing Arts Department at a reduced rate of £3 and £2 for concessions, and on the door on the night for £4 and £3 concessions. It promises to be a wonderful night, so please join us if you can.

THANK YOU

FOUR SEASONS

We are very grateful to Four Seasons in Tenby for once again generously donating a beautiful Christmas tree to the School, to take pride of place in the Main Hall. Thank you!

TOWN CONCERT

Christmas in Tenby just would not be the same without the now annual Town Concert in St. Mary's Church, featuring the School Choir, Orchestra and Wind Band, which was held on Wednesday night. Special thanks must go to the talented musicians who enthralled their audience, but also to the staff of the Performing Arts Department for their hard work in preparing the students.

WINTER CARNIVAL FLOAT

We are delighted to announce that in Saturday's Winter Carnival, the Ysgol Greenhill School float won first prize in the best float competition. The theme of this year's float was 'The Blue Planet', and featured Ann-Marie Whitehouse, Amy Smith and Polly Evans from the Sixth Form as well as students from Years 7 and 8. Congratulations!
