Monday, June 25, saw the finals of this year's Drama Competition in Greenhill. Each class in Years 7-9 had a winning group who competed in the finals to represent their year group on a tour of 12 local primary schools. The rules of the competition state that the plays must be suitable for their targeted audience and that they must teach the primary children something appropriate.
This year the standard was so high that in Year 9 we had joint winners who took it in turns to tour the schools. The two Year 9 winning plays were 'Brusha, Brusha, Brusha' starring Keira Bratcher, Claire Griffiths, Freya Rowlands, Jade Williams and Kate Williams (all about having a healthy lifestyle) and 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' starring Matthew Birch, Sophie Fleming, Kate Lamb, Matthew McGivern and Hannah Morgan (about the truth of Greenhill School and how it isn't as scary as it might seem).
The Year 7 winning play was 'Which Service Would You Like?' starring Annie Brougham, Sarah Davies, Rachel Mathias, Bethan Rowe and Natasha Turton. This showed the danger of prank 999 calls.
'The Secret of Paradise' won for Year 8 and was all about the importance of sharing. This starred Andrew Birch, Laura Griffiths, Adam Hughes, Chloe Laing and Phoebe Osborne.
Each play was thoroughly enjoyed by their primary school audiences, and hopefully they also learned important lessons from the plays too.
