Cross Country Running
Dyffryn Taf School were the winners of the Brianne Cross Country Championships last year and had the difficult challenge of retaining the title this season. All the runners were committed to giving their all to the competition again this season. Seventy pupils aged between 11 and 16 represented the school in the four races held at various schools across Carmarthenshire. The final race was held recently at Amman Valley School and when all the points were calculated Dyffryn Taf narrowly missed out on retaining the title by nine points to Amman Valley who were the overall winners this season. The following Dyffryn Taf students were then selected to represent the Brianne Cross Country Team in the Dyfed Championships at Oakwood: Girls - Marie LeRoy, Alexandra Ridge (Year 7); Florence Bowen-Rees (Year 8); Nia Owen, Nia Thomas, Hannah Richards, Eleri Allen, Hayley Muller (Year 9); Sophie Thomas (Year 10). Boys - Edward Noblett, Joshua Helps, Brandon Davies, William Boyd, Harry Payne, Harry Lewis (Year 7); Alfie Latham, Stevie Iles (Year 10). All 17 students who ran for the county team completed the course. 7 of these students have been invited to represent the Dyfed Team at the Welsh Cross Country Championships to be held in Brecon in March. Dyffryn Taf take final step towards league victory
Dyffryn Taf 1st XV's unbelievable run of form continued with another, this time more comfortable win over Coleg Sir Gar. On the team's away visit to the college, it proved to be a far closer affair, with the firsts just beating the college in challenging conditions. However, this more recent affair between the two proved to be far more comfortable for the current league leaders. Whilst the first half started quite close, Dyffryn Taf ran away with it in the second, with tries from both forwards, who dominated the Coleg Sir Gar pack, and the backs, despite new additions in the college's back line. The league has finally been wrapped up by Dyffryn Taf who have managed an unbelievable run of form with not a single loss to their name. The team now plan to take their success on an end- of-season tour, the details of which are being finalised. The team wish to thank everybody for their support over the season, in particular the coaches and match organisers.
Hockey
The Dyffryn Taf Year 9 and Year 11 girls hockey teams have both been very successful this season. They have both won the Carmarthenshire County Schools competition in their age group, therefore qualifying for the Dyfed championships. This competition involved a round-robin tournament between the winning teams from Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Llanelli and Ceredigion. The competitions were very close, with the two teams from Dyffryn Taf finishing in third place. Judith Roberts, PE teacher at Dyffryn Taf, said: "The Year 11 team have been playing together since Year 7 and their dedication and commitment to the sport has been outstanding over the past five years. Congratulations to all members of both teams on their success this season."
