First World War Centenary: From 2014 until 2018 there will be several events all over the world to mark the centenary of the First World War. The Whitland and Llanboidy Branch of the British Legion, Whitland Town Council, Whitland ATC and Whitland Memorial Hall are spearheading the organisation of local events. Among them is an exhibition in November 2014 and they are asking anyone who has any memorabilia, mementos, family stories and history from WWI or from the period from 1914 to 1918, if they would be willing to share and lend these for the exhibition. Tickets (£3) are available from committee members prior to event. Armed Forces Day: Saturday, June 28, is Armed Forces Day. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution made by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces and show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families and from veterans to cadets. The Whitland 2420 (Whitland and District) Squadron Air Training Corps, will convene at the Whitland Memorial Hall at 11.30 am to salute the Armed Forces Day flags and hold a parade through the town, which will end with an Open Day and BBQ at ATC Squadron Headquarters (next to the Fire Station).
