No Electricity Day

On Tuesday, as part of their ESDGC Gold Award action plan, Tenby VC Infants School became the first Pembrokeshire school to have a 'No Electricity Day' during the school day. At 9 am, everything electrical was switched off and unplugged, meters read and the Electric Detectives were at the ready to make sure that no one was cheating! They patrolled school throughout the day and were pleased to report that not one class had switched anything on. Staff brought in flasks of hot water to make their mid morning cuppa and the photocopier was banned! The kitchen provided a fabulous picnic which the children thoroughly enjoyed in the hall - with all cakes and sausage rolls cooked in preparation the day before. Criw Cymraeg assembly was great fun - no whiteboard for song words and no piano to help with the singing. Some of the teachers had forgotten to print out their Seren Siarad Cymraeg certificates, some had remembered and some used initiative and made their own. Janie Pridham, Pembrokehire Sustainable Schools Officer, came along in the afternoon to support the school's initiative. She played a great game from El Salvador, 'Ensalada de Fruta', which didn't need any electricity at all to play and had the children in fits of laughter. According to the meter readings at the start and end of the day, only 34 units of electricity have been used. The children will be meter reading again next Tuesday to compare the usage from the two days. The children had a great day and came up with great ideas of what to do when there is no electricity. They have been challenged to have a go at home too. The school hopes that this will become a termly event and would like to challenge all the Pembrokeshire schools to have a go.   SPECIAL PRESENTATION

The school presented two very special people with a wedding present in assembly just before the half-term holidays. Rev. Alex and Canon Davies were presented with a canvas of the school mural to help celebrate their wedding tomorrow (Saturday). Llongyfarchiadau mawr i chi'ch dau - congratulations to them both from the school.
