Nathan Spiller may presently be thousands of miles from Saundersfoot, but that did not prevent him joining in with the village's New Year's Day Swim celebrations.

PO WEM (O) Spiller, of Upper Hill Park, Tenby, is currently on deployment in the Gulf of Aden on anti-piracy operations.

"We deployed in October and are due to get back to the UK at the end of April," he said in an e-mail received at our offices this week.

"We were at sea for Christmas Day, but got alongside Salalah, Oman, on December 31. The photo attached is of me joining in with the Saundersfoot New Year Day's Swim - in spirit anyway."
