A new trophy has been given to Tenby in Bloom in memory of a well-known and respected Tenby resident.

The trophy was given by the Rotary Club of Tenby in memory of their former president Richard 'Dick' Morgan, and, was officially presented this week by the Rotary Club's current president, Chris Sierwald, to Tenby in Bloom chairman Clive Betts.

Besides being a stalwart member of the Rotary Club, Dick, a former water company official, was also a former town clerk to Tenby Town Council and treasurer and faithful member of St. Johns Church.

President Chris said that the Rotary Club were very pleased to be honouring Dick in this way as he had always been a very enthusiastic contestant in, and all-round supporter of, Tenby in Bloom. He immensely enjoyed participating in the annual floral competition.

The trophy will be presented to the winner of the class for 'the best garden not visible from the road.'

Despite the inclement weather of late, Tenby has been in full bloom this week for the colourful Tenby in Bloom floral competition.

Judging in the 30th annual event took place on Tuesday, and whilst the judges, Barry and Sue McGrath and Nick Bayley, environment policy officer for Pembrokeshire County Council, were impressed with the standard of entries considering the summer temperatures, they were disappointed at the displays in Tudor Square.

The presentation ceremony for the competition, this year sponsored by Shearings, will take place at the Imperial Hotel next Thursday, July 19, at 10.30 am.
