Transport for Wales have said that the company is looking to improve its rail services for travellers heading to places such as Tenby.

Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane recently told her colleagues at Tenby Town Council that she had recently returned via train from a trip to London and was surprised at how little space there was for luggage, stating that services travelling to holiday destinations such as Tenby needed to have better storage facilities on board

“The new trains are very nice, but the reduced luggage racks don’t help. From the Swansea station down to Pembrokeshire there was barely any luggage storage at all! It does not make much sense seeing that these trains are carrying passengers to tourism areas,” she remarked.

In response to the suggestion, at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, correspondence was received from Geraint Morgan, community affairs manager at Transport For Wales.

“We are aware of the popularity of Tenby with visitors and the natural increase in luggage this generates on trains. I will share your feedback with colleagues involved with the development of the new fleet,” he said.

“New trains will be introduced on our network during 2022 - providing total capacity of 202 on two-car formations and 316 on three-car formations. Trains will feature air conditioning, electronic seat reservation and three spaces for bicycles.

“From May 2023, on the route between Carmarthen and Pembroke Dock, there will be an increase in train frequency on Sundays from five to six trains per day.

“On a side note, the station planters were refreshed last week and we now have a volunteer from Caerphilly who visits Tenby on a very regular basis who has kindly offered to help maintain them,” he added.
