The RNLI is in negotiation with a possible tenant for Tenby's old boathouse.

Discussions are in hand with the planning authority and other interested parties.

The news comes as statistics are revealed which shows the resort's inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats launched 67 times last year, an increase of 36 per cent on launches the previous year.

With 27 call-outs for the all-weather lifeboat and 40 for the inshore lifeboat, Tenby was the second busiest station in Wales, beaten only by Rhyl.

The volunteer RNLI crew at Tenby spent 81-and-a-half hours at sea and rescued 52 people.

The RNLI's first lifeguarding season in Pembrokeshire also proved to be a busy period, with 509 incidents and 561 people assisted on the county's beaches between Poppit Sands and Amroth.

Today (Friday) sees the RNLI charity celebrate its biggest fund-raising day of the year, with fun-filled events from 'Spots and Stripes On Socks' at St. Teilo's School in Tenby to a 'Safety Optimises Success event' at Chevron.
