SOME 200-plus Rotarians representing 73 clubs in South, Mid and South West Wales, together with friends and guests attended the handover at The Margam Park Orangery, on Sunday, July 6.

Past District Governor Roy Blacker, who had completed a very successful year, installed Rotarian Clayton Heycock to serve as District Governor, during the fourth year of the second century of Rotary service.

Clayton obtained an Honours Degree in Economics, followed by a Master's Degree for research into Comprehensive Schools at Swansea University and a Master of Arts Degree at Leicester University. After some years as a secondary school teacher and a part-time lecturer with the Open University, he became a senior advisor in secondary education and was appointed the deputy director of education for West Glamorgan.

For seven years until his retirement in 1997, he was secretary and chief executive of the Welsh Joint Education Committee and has held numerous other appointments. Currently he continues to have many interests which keep him actively engaged in the community generally.

Clayton married Lynda in 1964 and they have two daughters, Alyson and Rebecca, two sons-in law, Lynn and Richard and four grandchildren, Rhys, Elis, Danny and Eleri.

Clayton is a very experienced Rotarian, joining the Port Talbot Club in 1976, serving in a number of roles within the club, including the office of president on two occasions. At District level, he was an assistant governor, youth opportunities chairman and he was also given a variety of other responsibilities which he carried out in a conscientious manner.
