A service of remembrance was held at the New Hedges Village Hall on Wednesday, Armistice Day, when a newly-prepared war memorial plaque with the names of the servicemen who had paid the ultimate price during active service during world War Two was unveiled.

The plaque was unveiled by the chairman of St. Mary Out Liberty Council, Clr. Des Brace, and the names of the fallen were read out by Rev. John Morgan, namely Ivor Brace, Stuart Richards, Geoffrey Badham, Bernard Badham, William Way and Bernard Skelly from the Royal Australian Airforce.

The service was attended by a large number of local people and the act of remembrance was conducted by Rev. Morgan who has close links with the village of New Hedges having recently being appointed as the resident clergy to St. Anne’s Church.

The Royal British Legion were represented by Gordon Prime, president of the Tenby branch of the Royal British Legion. The Royal British Legion Standard was carried by Chris Morris, of the Tenby branch, and Dennis Goldsworthy from the Royal Regiment of Wales.

Wreaths were laid by Clr. Brace and by Gerry Price, a veteran of the Russian Convoys of World War Two.

Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the New Hedges Village Hall management committee.
