A new member has been co-opted onto Tenby Town Council after the matter was put to the vote this week at the Mayor’s Parlour.

The position for the vacancy in the North Ward left by Clr. Ben James, who stepped down from his role as a town councillor in September, was filled at a meeting on Tuesday night by Mrs. Alex Rees, of Clareston Road.

Clr. Mrs. Rees, who works at Tenby’s Greenhill School as secretary and is married to one of the town’s firefighters and regular triathlon contender Nicky Rees, was voted onto the council by a substantial margin after councillors considered her application, along with three other candidates who had applied for the role.

“We are both keen charity fund-raisers for local causes or connections to locals, and both keen triathletes... although he is far better than me!” wrote Mrs. Rees of herself and her husband, who have two children, Chelsea and Dylan.

“Over the past year, we both ran, swam, biked or all three with friends to raise money to help the local Chemotherapy Day Unit and Bloodwise, after a very close friend was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

“We are all very proud to call Tenby our home and will do anything to protect and promote it,” she added.

Following the co-option, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that the town council looked forward to welcoming Mrs. Rees to the council.
