Oyez, oyez, oyez! Narberth’s new Mayor was welcomed into office by the town crier, Ceri Barnes, at Tuesday night’s annual general meeting of the town council.

Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt was proposed for the post by Clr. Eric Feetham, seconded by Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, with all members in favour.

She received the prestigious chain of office from outgoing Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, who said she had enjoyed ‘a great year’ as First Citizen, before thanking everyone who had made it a successful time in office.

Clr. Feetham responded, thanking Clr. Mrs. Rogers and congratulating her on doing a ‘very, very good job.’

Donning the scarlet robes, Clr. Mrs. Platt’s first job was to appoint her husband Mike as her consort and then ask for nominations for Deputy Mayor. Clr. Mrs. Rogers proposed Clr. Jeremy Griffiths continue in the role, seconded by Clr. Mrs. Rees, with all present agreeing.

Clr. Mrs. Platt, an admin support assistant at Pembrokeshire County Council, is no stranger to the role of Mayor, having served twice previously in 2009/10 and 2013/14.

The annual civic parade and service will take place on the opening day of Civic Week in July.
