New Mayor of Narberth is Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers.
No stranger to the job, Clr. Mrs. Rogers, who was previously First Citizen in 2007/8, donned the scarlet robes of office at the Mayor-making ceremony during the town council's annual general meeting on Tuesday evening.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers, who takes over from Clr. Colin Williams, received a standing ovation from her fellow councillors after being presented with the chain of office.
Before handing over, Clr. Williams said he had enjoyed his year as Mayor - his fifth time of holding the post.
He reflected on the successful civic service and luncheon, as well as all the Mayor-making ceremonies and events he had attended, not forgetting the charity concert in aid of HOPE which was held recently.
He also thanked the fellow Mayors of Pembrokeshire for their friendship and the welcome he had received on official duties.
In addition, he thanked his fellow councillors for their support and help, the clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, who he described as 'first class' and the press for their 'good words'.
Clr. Williams received the unanimous backing of his colleagues when he put forward the name of Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers as his successor.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers's first job was to elect her Deputy Mayor. Following a three-way election at the previous month's meeting, Clr. Ms. Suzanne Radford-Smith, herself also a former Mayor, was elected. Clr. Ms. Radford-Smith was in fact Mayoress when Clr. Mrs. Rogers was Mayor four years ago.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers presented Clr. Ms. Radford-Smith with her chain of office, before outgoing Mayoress, Mrs. Sheila Williams, presented the Mayoress's chain of office to Clr. Mrs. Denise Rigby. And yes, you've guessed it, Clr. Mrs. Rigby was Mayoress in 2007 too!
Born and brought up in Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Rogers, of Narberth Bridge, is once again following in the footsteps of her father, the late Don Morgan, who was Mayor in 1984.
A florist at Next Door Florist, she is married to Tony and they have two daughters, Jemma and Abby. She is also chairman of Narberth Civic Week, a member of the winter carnival and play park committees and a volunteer at the Bus Stop Youth Project.
