A new illustrated guide to the medieval walled town of Tenby is to be published this year.
Tenby Civic Society is producing the tourist leaflet- size booklet which will feature approximately 15 pages of text, with illustrations by well-known artist Mr. Eric Bradforth, and a map.
The publication, 'Tenby Historic Town Trail, A walk through the medieval walled town' will go on sale at Easter.
Total cost of the project, work on which has been directed by John Beynon, former curator of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, is £1,700.
A grant of £500 has already been received from Chevron, with a further £250 being given by Tenby Town Council this week. The remaining cost will be met from within the society's own resources. The publication will be on sale locally at a cost of 99p per copy. Any income in excess of the society's costs will be donated to local charities selected by the society, as well as some spent on the society's own local work.
"In accordance with the aims of the Civic Trust, of which the society is a member, the publication has been designed to increase public understanding and enjoyment of the local built heritage and to provide opportunities to learn about the historical development of the town," said Mr. Beynon, an executive committee member of the society, in a letter to the town council.
"The format will provide an accompaniment to a circular walk within the town walls, identifying significant buildings and historic sites. In addition, the trail will provide information relating to many aspects of the town's history from the 13th Century onwards and encourage an interest in the continuing conservation of local heritage."
There is presently no guide similar to the one envisaged in the project, but a previous publication by Tenby Civic Society in the 1970s proved immensely popular with locals and visitors alike.
