MEMBERS of the Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust Board were delighted last week to confirm the appointment of two new consultants at Withybush Hospital.
Dr. Amanda Coulson will be the first consultant rheumatologist to be employed by the Trust. She takes up her post in September. Dr. Coulson came to the UK from South Africa in 1987, first working in Kent and then in Aberdeen where she is currently senior registrar in rheumatology and general internal medicine.
Trust chief executive, Stuart Fletcher, said: "Dr. Coulson's appointment sees the fulfilment of a long-awaited development for the area and is welcomed wholeheartedly by the Trust, GP's, the Local Health Group, and the local branch of Arthritis Care for Wales."
The second appointment is to replace Dr. Arabinda Palit who, following his recent retirement, was awarded the OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
Dr. Vishwa Narayan will take up post as consultant paediatrician in July. Dr. Narayan came to the UK in 1993 and has held posts in the north of England. He has spent the last year in Canada carrying out a clinical fellowship in paediatric respiratory medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.
The Trust Board was also pleased to know that Dr. Ian Ralfs has been appointed consultant dermatologist by Swansea NHS Trust, with four sessions a week to be spent treating patients in Pembrokeshire.
