The home match against Reynalton on January 30 was most enjoyable, even more so because the 'Hedgehogs' won! - their third match in a row! The hedgehog mascot was in full view and had its snout pinched for luck by all the New Hedges team members before playing, so perhaps that was why! Neither club had a full team, so names were drawn and for New Hedges, Tony's name appeared, so according to bowling rules he had to play number one in the quartet. The Reynalton singles player had not arrived, so the evening began with the doubles. Tony and Eileen were on better form than in their previous match and won 11-0. Then came the singles, Arthur Pettifer playing for the Hedgehogs, which unfortunately he lost by 5-4. Margaret, Pat Horne, with Joan as skip, also lost the triples by 8-2. The quartet of Tony, Jeanette, John, with Patricia as skip, won 8-4. New Hedges won by 24-17 shots, and with six league points to four. The evening concluded with refreshments and the usual raffles, Reynalton winning one, and New Hedges the other. The next matches on the bowls agenda are with Hundleton on February 13, Llanddewi Velfry on February 22; the home match with St. John's on February 27 has now been postponed until March 9. Finally, there is a home match with Skrinkle on March 23. The New Hedges Club needs a name for their hedgehog mascot. Can you think of a good one? If so, write the name on a postcard and send it with your name, address and telephone number to: Hedgehog Name, 11 Hunters Park, New Hedges, Tenby, SA70 8TP. The person who chooses the accepted name will receive a prize and the option to try their hand at short mat bowling.
