Michael Davies has taken over the headship at Ysgol y Preseli in Crymych.
Former deputy head, Michael Davies took over from Martin Lloyd, the longstanding head of Ysgol y Preseli, earlier this year.
Mr. Lloyd had been head of the 900-plus bilingual school for 18 years.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge very much," said Mr. Davies.
"Standards are very high at the school, and I want to ensure that these continue, as well as instilling high expectations amongst pupils.
"I also hope to expand the opportunities, both academic and extra curricula, for all pupils."
Mr. Davies, who is originally from Newcastle Emlyn, began teaching geography in 1984 at Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold.
Married with two teenage sons, he started at Preseli two years later and has been the school's deputy head for almost five years.
"Most importantly, I want to run a happy school, based on effective partnerships and working relations between pupils, staff, parents and the community," he said.
"We have an excellent team of teachers here and we want to continue the good work of Martin Lloyd."
