The introduction of a new handyperson service for the county has been made possible by the successful working partnership of Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire Housing. They have provided the main sources of income for the project, together with Pembrokeshire Local Health Board. Speaking at the launch, Pembrokeshire County Clr. David Wildman, chairman of Pembrokeshire Care and Repair and council cabinet member for the elderly and infirm at Pembrokeshire County Council explained: "The aim of the programme is to provide a small adaptation or repair service that allows people to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes for as long as they are able to do so. The service will complement the very successful Welsh Assembly Government funded Rapid Response Adaptations Programme, which is already operated by the Agency." Because of the anticipated high demand for the service referrals initially will only be accepted from Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust and Pembrokeshire Local Health Board, including local doctors surgeries. If you wish to have any further information regarding the service, please contact the Agency on 01437 766717.
