There have been celebrations this week for Dennis and Jennifer Andrews, of Tenby's Heywood Mount Hotel, which has just been awarded the prestigious Wales Tourist Board four-star rating.

Delighting both Dennis, Jennifer and their staff, the news comes just 12 months after a major refurbishment and state-of-the art Spa Leisure Suite was opened at the Heywood Lane hotel.

The award is the 'icing on the cake' for the couple who are 'over the moon' that their hotel is now one of only a select band of establishments to be granted the four-star status in Pembrokeshire.

"We are ecstatically happy," Dennis told the Observer.

"This is what we wanted to achieve and all the hard work that has gone into the refurbishment, including the upgrading of the bedrooms and expansion of the restaurant, together with the opening of the leisure suite, has all been worthwhile," he continued.

"We have an entertainment licence, a civil wedding licence and now the four-star status is really the icing on the cake.

"People these days want quality and we are delighted to be able to offer it to them."

Dennis also paid special tribute to the hotel staff.

"They have all been fantastic and worked extremely hard to help us achieve our goal," he said.

In a report received by Dennis and Jenny from Wales Tourist Board quality advisor, Jeff Clapham, who checked into the hotel anonymously last month, it states that Heywood Mount offers its guests 'comfortable standards of accommodation, with the new bedrooms, public areas and leisure suite having been maintained and presented to a high standard'.

"The levels of hospitality experienced, not just to myself, but to the other guests, was really very high and is a credit to yourself," his report continued.

"The cuisine at both dinner and breakfast was very good/excellent in quality, with the friendliness of the staff during both these occasions being excellent."

In his report, Mr. Clapham made several suggestions to be implemented before the next assessment and Mr. and Mrs. Andrews will be taking these on board, but most had already been dealt with before Mr. Clapham checked out!
