Artist-duo Kaleidoworks will be delivering Playing Field, a new project hosted by the Reading Room in Manorbier. The project will explore the importance of play and public space by working closely with Save Our Skrinkle Park campaign - a community group who are fundraising to restore the play park on Skrinkle Estate in Manorbier.
As well as making their own film, the artists will be delivering an exciting programme of free-of-charge workshops, screenings and events for all those interested in contemporary arts practice, as well as families looking for fun activities over the summer holidays.
As specialists in experimental film and participatory arts, Kaleidoworks invite children and local people to use cameras and sound recording devices to playfully document the park. People of all ages are welcome to join in and learn about digital film-making, stunt-cinematography, audio-recording and editing during these drop-in sessions in the open-air.
In addition to the schedule of workshops, the artists will accumulate an archive of memories and local connections to this fundamental community space by recording conversations about Skrinkle playground, as well as leaving a box on-site for people to post ‘Letters to the Park.’
The project will culminate in a celebratory barbecue on Skrinkle Park to fundraise for new playground apparatus, before moving on to the Reading Room to preview the collection of films that capture the life and landscape of the local playground.
