Kingsmoor Sports Club recently held a social evening to celebrate the erection of their new fence. Like many organisations, the committee find it difficult to raise large amounts of money to finance capital programmes and the erection of the fence was no exception. On this occasion, it became something of a village effort supported by a grant of £800 from the Communities First Trust Fund. Despite this, a lot more money was required to ensure that the fence was in place. There was a dire need for a new boundary marker, if only to provide a leaning bar for the hardy football fans who gather each Saturday to cheer on the local team. More importantly, the old fence, put there when the club was built in 1977, had become more of a liability and an eyesore. When there is a need, it is encouraging to realise that many members of the community rally round in support of a worthy cause and such was the case with the fence. Donations have been received from many of the residents of James Park and Cotswold Gardens to help the club make this part of the village more presentable and to secure the premises. The KSA wish to publicly thank those residents for their contributions, totalling £275, to this cause. A vote of thanks is also extended to Hughie and Joan Beynon for their efforts with the raffle that was organised. It is well-known that Hughie, supported by his wife Joan, could sell snow to the Eskimos, so selling raffle tickets to the public and friends of the club was a somewhat easier, but very time- consuming task, willingly taken on by a former steward of the club. The committee is extremely grateful to the Co-op and the RAOB Club for allowing Hughie access to their premises and also to all the local business premises in the village who willingly accepted and sold raffle tickets on the club's behalf. The fence itself was erected by David Rees Fencing and the committee would like to express their thanks to him for his very kind donation of £100 as the first prize and to all the other club members who donated prizes as listed below. At the same event, the chairman of the social club, Mr. Dillwyn Davies, made a small presentation to Mrs. Rita Collins, who recently retired from the position of club treasurer, a position she had held for the past nine years. In this role, she had guided the social club through some very difficult times, ensuring that the financial status of the club remained solid throughout. All members are grateful for her dedication and total commitment to ensuring that the club remained at its most efficient for all members. Raffle winners were: £100 (David Rees) - Mr. Derek Jones; £25 - Mr. R. Thomas, Kilgetty; £15 - Mr. Brenda Wood; petrol voucher (Crossroads Garage) - Mr. R. Edwards, Tonyrefail; bottle of spirits (Social Club) - 0238028284; radio alarm (H. and J. Beynon) - 810360; sherry (H. and J.
