Pictured at the opening of the new art exhibition, Plethu by Sarah Young, at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery are Hywel Thomas, trustee; David Hughes, chairman of trustees; the artist Sarah Young and Alun Ifans, headmaster at Puncheston School, who officially opened the show.

Sarah, born in Pembrokeshire, trained at Carmarthen College of Art and the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she graduated in Fine Art. Among her teachers were Christine Kinsey and Osi Rhys Osmond.

As can be seen from the works on show, her inspiration comes from the Pembrokeshire landscape which she boldly records in oils, watercolours and gouache.

Her work has also illustrated poetry for Prifardd Jams Nicholas and Prifardd Myrddin ap Dafydd, winner of the National Eisteddfod chair in St. David's in 2002.

Sarah's paintings, as well as having been exhibited in many galleries, have also featured on the Welsh Arts programme Y Sioe Gelf and S4C's Wedi 7 and Wedi 3.

Of her work and inspirations, Sarah said: "My paintings are created from my spiritual and aesthetic explorations of my homeland and how it touches my imagination. My work is not an imitation of the landscape, it is an interpretation."

There will be the opportunity to meet Sarah Young and discuss her work at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Friday, June 12, between 2 and 4 pm.

This sales exhibition runs until Sunday, June 28, and the museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, with last admission at 4.30 pm.
