A dial-a-ride service for people who have difficulty getting around their local town has been launched in the Tenby and Pembroke areas - following its success elsewhere in the county. The Town Rider scheme is for local residents who are eligible for a bus pass but are unable to use the bus. The free service is now available in the Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock areas. Hundreds of passengers already take advantage of the service in Haverfordwest and Fishguard. The service is run by Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) in association with Pembrokeshire County Council. The new services in South Pembrokeshire are operated by Silcox Coaches. "We are delighted to be able to extend the Town Rider scheme," said Clr. David Wildman, cabinet member for the elderly and infirm. "It will enable many people who normally find it difficult to travel to get out and about in their locality." The service uses a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and the driver is on hand to help passengers board and alight. Passengers are picked up from their home, or any convenient place, and can travel anywhere in and around their local town. They need to book their journey in advance by calling a freephone number. The Tenby and Saundersfoot Town Rider can pick people up and drop them off in Tenby, Saundersfoot, New Hedges, and Penally. The service runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, between 9.30 am and 2.30 pm. The Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Town Rider can pick people up and drop them off in Pembroke Town Centre, Pembroke Dock Town Centre, Cosheston, Golden Hill, Hundleton, Kingsbridge, Lamphey, Llanion, Maidenwells, Monkton and Pennar. It runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9.30 am and 2.30 pm. It is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of their Community Transport Concessionary Fares Initiative.
