A new classroom wing has been opened at Saundersfoot Primary School.

The chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. John George, officially opened a £2.3m six-classrooms extension to the 300-pupil school on Tuesday.

The new extension is the latest in a long line of new buildings and improvements to education infrastructure, which have been made by the county council.

Since it came into being in 1996, over £110m has been spent on improving school buildings.

"These new classrooms are the latest example of the county council's commitment to raising education standards," said Clr. George.

"To enable this to happen it is our profound belief that school buildings have a major part to play.

"High quality, modern school buildings with the latest integrated information technology systems can - and do - help raise attainment and can make a major contribution to improving education opportunities."

The six new classrooms have been funded by Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Facilities include interactive whiteboards, internet access and areas for practical activities.

In addition to the new classroom wing, the early years' facilities at the school have been refurbished, while improvements have also been made to the reception area, office and kitchen with a new community/parents room added.

The refurbished building also includes several safety and energy efficiency measures including a sprinkler system, energy efficient boilers and a natural ventilation strategy with rooflights in all classrooms.
