Residents of Whitland have expressed concern over traffic issues that a new brewery centre may pose for the town. Cardiff drinks company SA Brain will set up a 43,000 square feet distribution centre at the former Dairy Crest creamery site in a £1 million plus investment. Although delighted that the site will finally be re- developed, the town's Mayor, Clr. Con Harries, and residents of Spring Gardens, want to see the ongoing parking issues resolved as soon as possible. "The people of Whitland are delighted that something is finally being done on the old dairy site, however many residents are worried that due to the fact that there are no parking facilities in the town, the amount of lorries travelling back and forth from the site could have a chaotic effect on congestion," commented Clr. Harries. "We trust that the county council will see to putting in plans for a much-needed car park in Whitland. "Locals are also disappointed that the new development will not be creating any jobs, which is unfortunate," he added. A spokesperson for SA Brain said that a maximum of nine jobs would be brought to the facility, but those were likely to be for existing Brains employees from the closing depots in Narberth and Carmarthen. Mayor, Clr. Harries wished the brewery every success for the new development in the area.
