Last week saw the seniors take part in the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot Youth Speaks Competition. The school entered three teams. First up to speak were Astrid Bowen, Toby Foulkes and Johnnie Delahunty who debated the topic 'Kids are under too much pressure'. Rebecca Morgan, Jade Mason and Chantelle Good whose chosen topic was 'Abortion - it really is a woman's right to choose' followed them and finally Peter Scammell, Belynda Galliard and Milli Sandifer-Smith who debated 'Girls are influenced by false ideas of beauty'.

Although none of the teams were victorious, Belynda did win the prize for best proposer and both Mr. Morris and Mrs. James, their English teacher, were very proud of the way they all rose to the challenge.

Not to be outdone, teams from the lower secondary and junior areas of the school were also in competition last week. Morgan Scourfield, Morgan Short, Hector Martin-Davies and Sergey Konstantinov represented the school in the Narberth and District Junior Schools Swimming Gala. Morgan Short came fourth in the junior boys freestyle and third in the backstroke. Morgan Scourfield came third in the junior boys breaststroke and fourth in the butterfly. Hector and Sergey then joined them in the junior boys squad relay where they came fourth.

Andrea Chandy, Katharine Langford and Maziah Mohammad from Year 8 and David Free and Ele Scourfield from Year 7 took part in the 'All Wales School Liaison Core Programme National Quiz'. There were six rounds to the quiz and the questions were based on themes the pupils have been studying in their PHSE lessons - ages in law, social behaviour, health, personal safety and drug and substance misuse.

The team came fourth out of the nine schools taking part, after answering what the police service admitted were some really tough questions. Well done team.

Year 11 are well into GCSE coursework and Mr. Morris couldn't resist taking a photograph of his geography class busily using their lap-tops working on their projects.

As Christmas fast approaches pupils were asked to think of those less fortunate than themselves and fill shoeboxes with toys or household provisions for the Rotary Shoe Box Christmas Appeal. Pupils always respond positively to such appeals, as the photograph shows.

The final total raised for 'Children in Need' was a fantastic £265, so well done everyone.

To get them ready for their own Christmas production, Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 travelled to the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, to see this year's Christmas pantomime, Cinderella. Upon their return, they were full of the usual 'He's behind you' etc.

The school's own Christmas music and drama production takes place on Tuesday, December 9, in the School Hall starting at 1.30 pm and the school carol service is on Friday, December 12, at St. Issell's Church, Saundersfoot, starting at 11 am. Both events are open to the public and there is no charge, so please feel free to come along.
